THIS WEEK'S SCOUT REPORT

V'S SCOUT REPORT
FROM THE FIELD
Two distinct weekends this issue — Easter weekend is quieter and museum-forward, and the following weekend delivers two free festivals and an Earth Day celebration that's actually organized by the people who care about the earth. Honest heads-up: the three headline events this week don't allow pets. The markets are your dog-friendly anchors. V understands. Here's what's worth your time.

V's Feature Pick
🎶 MAITLAND JAZZ AND BLUES FESTIVAL
When: Friday, April 10 at 6 PM + Saturday, April 11
Where: Independence Square, 1776 Independence Lane, Maitland
Cost: FREE
The City of Maitland's biggest event of the year and one of the most legitimately stacked free lineups in Central Florida. Twelve bands across two stages — headliners include Curtis Delgado (soul/blues/R&B), Jessy J (contemporary jazz saxophone), Sean Chambers (blues rock guitar), and Billy Price (blues, 11 Blues Music Award nominations). Also on the bill: Chris O'Leary, Josh Rowand, Will Patrick, Alex Harris, Ella and the Bossa Beat, Hannah Stokes, and the Winter Park High School Jazz Band.
Open air, grass setting — bring your own chair and blanket and claim your spot. Food, drinks, vendors, and a kids play area round it out. From a logistics standpoint this is a well-organized city event, not a first-year experiment. Two things to know going in: no pets and no coolers. Service animals only. Parking available around Independence Square.

🎵 BLUEGRASS IN THE PARK — FORT CHRISTMAS
When: Sat Apr 11, 9:45 AM–4 PM
Where: Fort Christmas Historical Park, Christmas, FL
Cost: FREE
Three local bluegrass bands rotating through the day — Sandy Back Porch, The Canada Brothers Reunion, and Penny Creek Bluegrass Band. Food trucks, BBQ and bake awards at 2:50 PM, folklife exhibits, pioneer homes, and a petting animal area.
About 35 minutes east of downtown Orlando — worth the drive for the right person. One honest note: the park is built around a replica of the fort constructed in 1837 during the Second Seminole War.
The history here is complicated and real — worth taking a moment with the exhibits while you're there.
No pets on park grounds. Service animals only.
🌱 LOVE YOUR MOTHER EARTH DAY FESTIVAL
When: Sun Apr 12, 11 AM–4 PM | Where: 1st Street, Historic Downtown Sanford |
Cost: FREE
6th annual Earth Day celebration at Deviant Wolfe Brewing in Historic Downtown Sanford — 30+ eco-friendly vendors, live music, food trucks, Wildlife Art Show, and kids activities.
Local environmental organizations on site include Florida Native Plant Society, UCF Marine Turtle Research Group, Save the Manatee Club, and Black Bee Honey Conservation.
This is organized BY local environmental groups — real education, real neighbors, not a corporate green-washing event.
Dog policy not explicitly confirmed — check before you bring yours.
Historic Downtown Sanford street parking fills on weekends — arrive early or park a few blocks north and walk.
🐕 THU/FRI NIGHT MARKETS
When: Thu Apr 2 + Fri Apr 3, 6–10 PM|
Where: Thornton Park + Lake Nona |
Cost: FREE
Two weeknight options to open the Easter weekend. Thursday April 2 — TPD Night Market at Thornton Park, local makers, food trucks, dogs welcome.
Friday April 3 — Art After Dark Lake Nona under The Beacon, 40+ local makers, dogs on leash welcome, free garage parking.
Low-pressure and browsable — the kind of evening that doesn't require you to be "on."
🎨 MORSE MUSEUM — FREE EASTER WEEKEND
When: Fri Apr 3 all day + Sat Apr 4–Sun Apr 5 |
Where: 445 N Park Ave, Winter Park
Cost: FREE
The world's most comprehensive collection of Louis Comfort Tiffany art — leaded glass lamps, windows, pottery, and paintings.
Normally $6 admission; free Easter weekend is a Morse tradition. Friday evening adds live music 5–8 PM, making it a proper evening out on Park Avenue.
Perfect quiet Easter option for people who'd rather skip the resort brunches and egg hunts.
Small, intimate, self-paced — the definition of introvert-friendly. Indoor museum, no dogs.

Monday anchor: Audubon Park Community Market every Monday 5–8 PM at the Stardust Video & Coffee parking lot on E. Winter Park Rd. Dog-friendly, leashed well-behaved pets welcome, pet vendors on site. Neighborhood-scale and genuinely local — the kind of thing that never makes the tourist lists.
